I just published an article in The Diplomat discussing many of the questions that are raised by the Chinese criminal justice system. The recent detentions of Professor Xu Zhangrun and Ms. Geng Xiaonan and her husband, the continuing repression of mainland Chinese dissidents and minorities, and the plight of the “Hong Kong 12,” detained while fleeing to Taiwan, illuminate some of the system’s many problems.
